Statement from The Strobel Center at CCU on the passing of Ravi Zacharias
We are heartbroken at the news that our friend and fellow evangelist/apologist Ravi Zacharias has left our world, where he faithfully served so many years to proclaim and defend the biblical message of redemption through Christ. At the same time, we are profoundly grateful that he is now in the arms of his beloved Savior — forever.
“Ravi was a towering intellect — full of wisdom and insight — but he was also a compassionate, empathetic, and kind gentleman of the gospel,” said Lee Strobel, founding director of the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics at Colorado Christian University. “Ravi was a warm and wonderful ambassador for Christ — a role model for so many others.”
“I don’t think there’s a more effective communicator for Christ alive today than the one we just lost. And because of Ravi’s gentle and winsome approach, it seems that everyone who met him walked away as his friend,” said Mark Mittelberg, executive director of the Center. “He was a rare and vibrant combination of grace and truth — a powerful global influence for the gospel.”
Strobel interviewed Ravi for his book The Case for Faith. And Mittelberg’s son, Matthew, is part of the teaching team at Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) in Atlanta.
“Ravi impacted our lives deeply, but that’s also true of so many people who read his books or heard him speak,” said Strobel. “I’ve been flooded with emails and texts from people around the world whose lives were changed for eternity thanks to the way God uniquely used Ravi to share the timeless gospel message of hope and grace.”
Our sincere condolences go out to Ravi’s wife, Margie, their family, and the worldwide team at RZIM. We know God will continue Ravi’s legacy through RZIM into the future.
In the end, who will replace Ravi? Strobel and Mittelberg agree: it won’t be just one person, but a new generation of countless contagious Christians who are passionate about Jesus and committed to declaring and defending the gospel.
